The New York Post

I suppose it's time for "The New York Post"... and I ain't talkin bout the newspaper.

If you hadn't already gathered, my trip to New York was magical. There is something about being with old friends after a long time just laughing and reminiscing that makes everything splendid. We could have been in a random potato field in Boise, Idaho and I think I would have thought it was the most magnificent thing ever. (Has anyone ever been to Boise, Idaho? I just imagined there would be a lot of potato fields, since Idaho provides 1/3 of America's potatoes and all.) ... (Don't worry, I'm not that big of a dork, I totally wikipedia'ed that... WOW that just made me a bigger loser than I was before.)

But luckily we weren't in Idaho, we were in New York City: the "concrete jungle where dreams are made of," according to Jay-Z and Alicia Keys. And, oh, what a jungle it was. I thoroughly enjoy visiting New York. It's so vibrant and lively that it makes me feel so excited just to be there. I don't think I could handle the fast-paced lifestyle all the time, but it makes for a great weekend getaway. Especially when 3 of my best friends in the world live there.

On Friday afternoon, Courtney and I walked to lunch at a French cafe and afterwards decided to go shopping around Union Square. We decided to take the subway. This was the wrong decision.
Shortly after we got on the train, it stopped in the middle of the tracks. We began to slow and came to a dead stop in an extremely claustrophobic, dark, scary tunnel. The operator got on the speakers and said that there was a passenger injured and that we had to stop for an indefinite amount of time.
Now this is where I agree with the conservative parents of the world that movies have messed children's brains up. What are my first conclusions?
1) Someone was shot.
2) Someone was pushed onto the tracks.
3) Terrorist attack.
4) Hostage situation.
5) Two teenage street gangs of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds become engaged in a musical rumble.

Ok, the last one was just the synopsis from West Side Story, but hey, it could happen! Anywhoselbees, we never found out what actually happened (whomp whomp) but we did all have to evacuate the train. They made us all walk through the train and exit one-by-one out of the first door of the first car. It was pretty dramatic! People were hyperventilating and breathing into paper bags. When I say people, I do mean people other than myself.

After that rousing adventure, we went up to street level only to find it raining. Unable to get a cab, we walked for a while eventually grabbed a cab and heading to go shopping. I got a couple of things, nothing special.

That night, we went to Becco, a delicious italian restaurant that features an all-you-can-eat meal featuring salad and three house-made specialty pastas. DELICIOUS! We had a couple bottles of wine waiting for the rain storm outside to subside and then hit the streets for a night out. We went to a few bars, including one whose entrance was a secret door in the back of a restaurant. (I live for stuff like that!) We also got to do a little dancing and took a ton of pictures which were incredibly silly and further pictoral evidence of why none of us should ever have been hired at our jobs. ;)

Top the night off with a trip to McDonalds WALK-UP WINDOW (!) and you've got a successful night! Ady slept over both nights at Court and Steph's apartment and it was like childhood all over again! Except without those tiny cots my mom would set up for us.

Saturday was amazing. We walked the Brooklyn Bridge! I. Loved. It.
It may have been the hottest day in the history of our universe, but we had a great time. We even got ice cream and watched a kayak rolling demonstration. (I'm not sure why that happened.)

We met up with Grace for dinner at a mexican place which was awesome because A) I hadn't seen Grace in years and it was great to see her, and B) I love mexican food! It was a lot of fun. Delicious sangria, amazing guacamole and queso! I had the enchiladas suizas, in case you were wondering.
We attempted to go out after that, too, and came upon a bar whose air conditioning was broken. We decided to venture in anyway and spent about an hour convincing ourselves that it wasn't too bad. Stephanie resorted to cooling herself with her Mint Julip.

Upon returning back to the apartment, we had an elaborate selection process to decide what movie to put in and ended up watching "17 Again" starring Zac Efron who plays a younger version of Matthew Perry... something just doesn't add up there, no?
After sleeping in, going to brunch, light shopping and moving watching on Sunday, my New York weekend was almost over. But we made time for one final activity: PINKBERRY! I am probably lucky that they don't franchise anywhere near me, because I would eat there daily. Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch, Linner and Dinner. And Dessert(s).

I guess that was pretty much my weekend in a nutshell! I got back to my house in Lawrence around 12:30am and hit the sack so I could get up in the morning for work. What a drag! I am thinking of becoming a professional vacationer in New York City. This way, my friends plan all of our activities, I don't have to make any decisions, and everything is just amazingly fun. Plus, it wouldn't be too bad to get to see my best friends everyday...
