Have you ever seen the Saturday Night Live skits with Kristen Wiig as Sue, the woman who LOVES surprises?? I learned this weekend that she and I have that in common.
I kid you not... We threw Lisa a surprise going-away party on Saturday and I honestly felt like Sue! (You can click the link above if you don't know what I am talking about). We had the surprise all planned out and we even did a rehearsal. My role in the surprise was to turn on the light when she walked in and jump out. Unfortunately, the light that I had to turn on was behind the couch so I was perched up like a little bird who could barely contain herself... I nearly peed my party pants! (well not really, but does that convey to you how excited I was!!?)
The party was awesome, we had a really fun time. There were snacks and pizza, lots of drinks, good friends, good entertainment and even CatchPhrase! We love to play games. I hope Lisa had the best time ever!
The second surprise happened later that night when I received a text from my boss saying that I didn't have to come into work at all this week! I was pretty darn excited for this surprise too. I didn't pee myself, but I suppose I was all adrenaline'd out from the preparations for Lisa's shindig.
In light of this late discovery that I was free to come home to St. Louis whenever I pleased, I decided to come home last night and surprise the fam! So I got my Sue face back on and headed out of Lawrence around noon yesterday. I think the entire 4 hour drive (ok, 3 and a half... I was too excited, I might have gotten home a little faster than usual) I was planning in my head what I would do to surprise them.
I decided that I was going to ring the doorbell and leave Hef out in the hall (if you don't know, I live in a condo building so "out in the hall" actually does make sense here since it is our "front door") so that when they answered the door, they would just see a little bunny out there and I would hide. However, my plan was slightly foiled when I got up there, rang the doorbell and heard a yelp from none other than Johann. Since I didn't want Hef to get eaten (that would be a sweet homecoming surprise, no?), I had to run out of my hiding space, grab him up and throw him into his travel pet carrier and shove it at the door in a matter of seconds. It was kind of dramatic, really. Luckily, I was back in my secret spot, and a rattled Hef in carrier was still a confusing enough situation that my surprise worked!
I do feel bad for lying to my mom to make the surprise work, but it really isn't lying if you are doing it for their benefit, right?
I am worn out from all the surprises! I think I have met my quota for awhile. Now I will just relax and wait for Christmas so that Santa can surprise me!
P.S. I don't have a photo to post for either event because my camera broke last weekend, but I will try to make up for it later!
