A Work In Progress

Today begins a new month, a new blog, and what I hope to be an exciting new adventure.

I've titled my first entry of my new blog "A Work In Progress" for many reasons. First, this web page is going to take me a while to get it exactly how I want it. Have I mentioned before that I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist? Bare with me as I make changes over time.

Primarily, the title reflects my new outlook on life: I am a work in progress.

It's easy to get caught up in your life and get down on yourself for the way you look and feel or the choices you have made (especially in winter). What's important to remember is that you don't have to settle. You have to power to better yourself. Change isn't easy and it certainly doesn't happen overnight, but if you want something, you have to work for it.

So here I am... in the "working for it" stage. And let me tell you... I have a long way to go. Like the-amount-of-time-it's-been-since-the-Cubs-have-won-a-World-Series-long.. I am not proud to say that I weigh more than I ever have in my life (yes, that includes the freshman 15 or "KU 22" that I gained in college) and that I have basically shunned the idea of healthy eating and exercising out of my life for the past 9 months.

I am, however, excited to get back in the swing of things and start seeing changes in my life. This blog will be an important tool for me to use not only to provide accountability for keeping up a fitness/healthy eating regiment, but as a way to get through my struggles that I will undoubtedly encounter each step of the way. Please don't hesitate to write comments that include suggestions as well as offer support.

And finally... I promise that all of my entries won't be this boring... I just had to get the establishing mumbo-jumbo out of the way. I hope you will stick around!

**Let me just put this disclaimer out there that all of my statements and personal reflections on this blog are solely based on my goals for myself. I am not necessarily calling myself "Fat" (don't let the title fool you) or saying anything about other people. I am exclusively talking about my personal level of health in the context of improving it. Please don't misunderstand my intentions!**
