The Serious Note

Yesterday, Kristen told me about all these abductions and rapes that have been happening around the KU campus recently that I was unaware of.

One incident happened when a girl was running by the stadium at night and a car pulled over and told her to get in. She began running away as fast as she could but the attacker caught up to her and raped her.
The stadium is less than 2 blocks from my house and I have been running outside lately while it's still warm enough. I would never run at night though, so I thought that maybe I could be exempt from these terrible things happening...
...Until Kristen told me about another abduction that happened recently in broad daylight up by campus. Even the light of day can't protect young girls from being attacked and raped.

How scary is this world? What sick, depraved people. We always think "that would never happen to me," but that doesn't mean you shouldn't be careful. Everyone should take procautions, especially in a college town like Lawrence where there are many young women and apparently many disgusting perverts.

In light of these events (and many many others of the past that are equally or more disturbing), I would like to remind everyone, particularly my young, female friends, to PLEASE be careful. Just because we are all "older and wiser" now doesn't mean that we can act like we are invincible.
If anyone ever needs a ride somewhere or someone to go places with, give me a call. I have plenty of free time.
